Strategic Partnership to Develop Ultra-Thin Biometric Sensors for Hardware Wallets and High-Security Applications
G-Knot Inc. (Delaware, USA), a biometric security company specializing in finger vein authentication with liveness detection, and VSTech Sensors (Bordeaux, France), a pioneer in organic photodiode (OPD) sensor technology, today announced the signing of a Letter of Intent (LOI) to jointly develop next-generation ultra-thin finger vein sensors for cryptocurrency hardware wallets, access control systems, and enterprise security applications.
“This partnership represents a significant milestone for G-Knot. VSTech’s breakthrough OPD technology enables us to integrate finger vein authentication into form factors that were previously impossible — including USB dongles and slim hardware wallets. Combined with our KISA-certified liveness detection algorithm, we can now deliver a security solution that truly cannot be spoofed.” - Won Lee, Founder & CEO, G-Knot Inc.
ADDRESSING A CRITICAL SECURITY GAP
Current biometric authentication methods face fundamental vulnerabilities. Academic research has demonstrated that conventional finger vein sensors — which rely solely on static pattern recognition — can be defeated with printed images (86% success rate) or 3D wax artifacts (90% success rate).
G-Knot’s proprietary P2N2 algorithm addresses this gap by incorporating real-time blood flow verification, making the system immune to spoofing attacks using photographs, silicone molds, or other counterfeit methods.
PARTNERSHIP OVERVIEW
The partnership combines G-Knot’s proven finger vein authentication and liveness detection technology with VSTech’s ultra-thin sensor platform, validated across multiple consumer electronics applications. Together, the two companies will deliver a compact high-resolution biometric security solution based on a lens-less architecture, integrated into cryptocurrency hardware wallets — a form factor not previously accessible to this technology.
“We are excited to partner with G-Knot to bring our OPD sensor technology to the biometric security market. Our technology has been validated across multiple consumer electronics applications, and G-Knot’s deep expertise in biometric algorithms makes them an ideal partner to unlock the full potential of finger vein authentication in compact devices.” - Jerome Joimel, Founder & CEO, VSTech Sensors
COLLABORATION STRUCTURE
Under the LOI, G-Knot and VSTech will jointly develop a biometric sensor module tailored for the cryptocurrency hardware wallet market. The collaboration will progress from an initial evaluation and integration phase through to joint product development, with commercial production targeted for 2027.
MARKET CONTEXT
The global biometric authentication market is projected to reach $65 billion by 2028, driven by increasing demand for high-security identity verification in financial services, cryptocurrency, and enterprise access control. Finger vein recognition is emerging as a preferred modality due to its superior resistance to spoofing compared to fingerprint and facial recognition technologies.
G-Knot’s technology is already deployed at UN headquarters office access systems and Korean financial institution PC login systems, demonstrating proven performance in high-security environments. The company is certified by the Korea Internet & Security Agency (KISA) for biometric authentication.
